Game of Three was written as compulsory piece for the Trondheim Chamber Music Competition 2011 and performed by 6 participating ensembles from all over the world.

The inspiration for this piece is drawn from the classical chamber music itself, its typical play of motives passed from instrument to instrument. In "Game of three" the motives are very short and brought very close to eachother, like glass beads tossed around in changing patterns by the players.

Neither the violinist, the cellist nor the pianist ever gets to plays a complete solo or theme: the music happens in the intersection of their actions. The scenes are fitted loosely together, hastily and lightly, displaying many combinations of similarity.

Four main variations divide the piece, within which you can find cycles of variations, or "pieces within the piece", at different speeds: a very slow melody, an even slower pattern of piano chords, a sequence of recurring sonic changes. This could be described as a game of fast changes within a framework of slow changes.

Inspirasjonen til dette stykket kommer fra den klassiske kammermusikken og hvordan motiver her blir spilt videre fra instrument til instrument. I "Game of three" er motivene veldig korte og nærme hverandre, lik glassperler som musikerne kaster om i skiftende mønstere.

Verken fiolinisten, cellisten eller pianisten får spille sammenhengende soloer eller temaer: musikken blir til i krysningen mellom deres handlinger. Scenene er løst sammensatt, hurtig og lett, og viser mange mulige kombinasjoner av likhet.

Stykket er delt inn i fire hovedvariasjoner. Inni disse finnes andre sett av variasjoner, eller "stykker i stykket", i ulike hastigheter: en langsom melodi, en enda langsommere serie pianoakkorder en sekvens av tilbakevendende klangforandringer. Det hele kan beskrives som et spill av raske skift inni et rammeverk av langsomme skift.
